Academy Park stormwater detention waiver
The city is rebuilding Academy Park with ADA playgrounds, a concession building, and trails, and asked to skip its own stricter stormwater rule in favor of state standards, since the site drains directly to Big Walnut Creek. The commission agreed and sent the waiver to council.
Flooding Cleanup
Heavy rains recently triggered widespread flooding across Gahanna, sparking a collaborative cleanup effort between city crews and local businesses. Residents should expect ongoing municipal recovery work in the impacted neighborhoods as the city clears the debris.
FEMA flood map revision uncertainty
FEMA is redrawing Gahanna's flood maps, and nobody knows when it'll finish. The changes could shift properties in or out of the floodplain and affect both the planned aquatics facility and the Creekside Garage and Plaza project.
Creekside Reimagined flood-protection grant
The city will apply for a NatureWorks state grant to buy removable flood barriers for the Creekside area, replacing older stop-log protection used during severe floods. Application had to be in by July 15.
Environmental Stewardship and Earth Day 2026
Council recognized Earth Day 2026 with a resolution highlighting local priorities — tree canopy, streams, watersheds, and parks. Councilmembers also plugged upcoming cleanups, including the April 25 litter cleanup and the Hoover Reservoir cleanup.
